Asbestos Containing Material

Asbestos is the name given to a number of naturally occurring, fibrous silicate minerals mined throughout the world for its unique properties, such as; thermal insulation, chemical and thermal stability, and high tensile strength. Asbestos is commonly used as an acoustic insulator, thermal insulation, fire proofing and in other building materials. The term Asbestos Containing Materials applies to products and building materials that are known to contain asbestos (as evidenced by product specifications or by testing of the material for asbestos content). Common Asbestos Containing Materials include some vinyl floor tiling, certain ceiling tiles and older pipe insulation.
