Certified Hazardous Materials Manager
The Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) certification is a credential offered by the Institute of Hazardous Materials Management (IHMM). Corporations and municipalities in the U.S. recognize the CHMM credential. Individuals with the CHMM certification have demonstrated their ability to perform:
Hazardous materials identification and handling in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
Planning and preparing for and responding to hazmat emergencies and incidents.
Sampling and analysis (of air, water, soil, waste) for potential contaminants.
Site investigation and remediation.
Hazmat program or project management.
Activities performed by CHMMs also include the review of plans, permits, applications and evaluation forms dealing with wastewater, stormwater, groundwater, and on Underground Storage Tank (UST) / petroleum cleanup evaluation forms. Certification by IHMM requires an application approval process, which considers examination scores, education, and experience.
