Registered Accessibility Specialist

Registered Accessibility Specialists (RAS) is a professional designation licensed and regulated by the State of Texas to ensure compliance with the adopted state accessibility standards. Qualifications typically include; attending a comprehensive accessibility course conducted by state officials, review and approval of applicable credentials and/or working experience, and passing a RAS examination. Continuing education is typically required yearly as a requirement for license renewal.
Complying with the Americans with Disability Act (ADA), State Mandated Accessibility Standards, and other building accessibility codes and requirements can be a complex and challenging process. A Texas Registered Accessibility Specialist can help an owner smoothly navigate through every phase of a project to achieve accessibility and avoid any costly headaches arising from non-compliance.
Whether it’s a public building or privately owned structure leased or occupied by government agencies, a place of public accommodation, or a commercial facility, a RAS can help with accessibility planning and compliance.
Typical services include:

Plan reviewing to verify they are designed to be in compliance with all applicable federal, state, and/or local accessibility codes before construction begins;
Site inspections to verify a facility meets all applicable accessibility requirements after the completion of construction;
Building and site assessments to identify any items or areas of non-compliance in existing structures. Commonly referred to as an Accessibility Survey or is part of a Property Condition Assessment;
